Emu Point is located a few kilometres north-east of Albany City Centre (see the City of Albany MAP). The Point itself is a rocky groyne with views over King George Sound and Middleton Beach from the northern end.

The Oyster Harbour side however is completely protected and is a perfect place for relaxing with a picnic and having a swim thanks to the shallow, clear waters and excellent facilities.

Emu Point Beach from the Pontoon in Oyster Harbour

Have a coffee, lunch or grab a snack at the cafe, sunbathe on a grassed terrace or enjoy the white sandy beach. Picnic tables, toilets, a restaurant and plenty of car parking make this beach fun for all ages.

The cool shallow water leads gradually out to the pontoon. Swim laps or gaze into Oyster Harbour and watch the pelicans glide over the water.

There is plenty of Shade, and a triple tiered grassed area so everyone can sit comfortably with a clear view of the water.

Enjoy a cuppa from the friendly cafe, and for the youngsters there is a park with swings, slide, climbing frames, etc. Foot showers for sandy feet.

And, there are usually a few Pelicans waddling about! Emu Point is a lovely, family friendly location.

Emu Point on the South Side facing King George Sound

Emu Point is the western side of a deep channel linking Oyster Harbour with the King George Sound. There is a boat harbour for vessels (up to 20 metres) called the Emu Point Boat Sheds in Oyster Harbour for you boat lovers.

Cross the peninsula onto the South Side of Emu Point and you'll find another beach at the very northern end of the beautiful Middleton Beach and swim in the waters of King George Sound. The rocky groyne looks directly across the channel at nearby Gull Rock National Park.

Emu Point is a wonderful place to swim, and in summer the sun warms Emu Harbour making it several degrees warmer then the other side of Emu Point on King George Sound.

Emu Point Pontoon and Lap Swimming Lanes

We like Emu Point. The whole family likes it. We think that is because there is so much to do, different areas to explore. The channels which wind through the harbour are constantly filled with boats headed in or out of the Harbour or up the Kalgan River which feeds Oyster Harbour.

Emu Point from above...

As you can see, the tree lined grass area offers plenty of shade yet offers direct beach access.

It is possible to walk from the beach to the pontoon and only get your bottom half wet. The turquoise waters make it easy to swim.

The Pelican at Emu Point.

They call him Percy. Percy the Pelican. He hangs around Emu Point watching the fishermen. Sometimes he dives for fish of his own. Please keep your distance.
